For anyone planning to stay in shap in 2010 it will be advisable to book well ahead as there are a lot less b & bs available than a few years ago . The future of fell house(still listed on most tourism websites) as a guest house is not clear so do be advised when booking. The safest options are the ones listed on this accomodation page ,( i am a local lad and have lived in the village all my life so you can be sure that the information on here is as local and up to date as you will get anywhere)

The kings arms hotel .The recently refurbished kings arms is situated in the middle of the village,on the left hand side if you are coming into the village from the motorway or from the south on the A6. The kings arms has 7 rooms ,all refurbished to a high standard ,5 are en-suite , rooms are from £35 per person per night (prices correct as of 2008-the website has not been updated so i suggest you ring to check)
