how to get here.
Shap is easily accessible from the M6 motorway if you are driving ,simply take junction 39 and follow the signs, on the A6 Shap is 16 miles north of Kendal and 10 miles south of Penrith . To reach Shap by train the nearest train station is Penrith north lakes ,which is 11 miles away , Shap is connected to both Penrith and Kendal by a daily bus service (mon-sat) buses run from about 07.30 to 18.30 (full timetable below) you can get taxis from Penrith to Shap but expect to pay !! expect to pay around £30-£40 one way (see tradesmen page for cheapest option) .Taxis from Kendal are also available but expect to pay £35+ one way . If you are walking to Shap then good luck !! shap is on the coast to coast walk and walking from patterdale is widely regarded as one of the most gruelling legs on the journey but there's always that cold pint and good grub to look forward to !.

From the nearest airports it takes approximately the following times to drive to shap :- manchester-2 hours ,liverpool -2hours, newcastle -2hours ,blackpool -1hour 30min . There are direct trains from manchester airport to penrith north lakes railway station .
