shap bowling club
Shap has an excellent bowling green maintained to a great standard by the tireless efforts of bj ,the clubhouse is newly refurbished and new members welcome, secretary j smith 01931 716958
The bowling club is holding sessions for young bowlers aged between 8 and 14 ,held at the bowling green on wednesdays between 17.30 & 18.30 ,
shap memorial park & play area
shap memorial park is home to the cricket and football teams as well as the bowling club ,tennis courts and swimming pool .at the top of the park is an enclosed play area for children with swings slide roundabout etc.( see picture)
shap youth club
shap youth club has restarted on fridays in the memorial hall from 7-9.30pm

The cricket team is starting life in the 2nd division of the eden valley league

The tennis courts are free to use , just bring your rackets and balls and away you go ,gets busy during wimbledon fortnight !!
walking
Shap is the perfect place as a base if you are wanting to explore the fells on foot ,there are a lot of fairly easy walks round the shap area if you are not too active ,or more strenuous ones if you fancy them, wainwrights coast to coast walk passes through shap on the route from st bees in the west to robin hoods bay in the east (or vice-versa). if you are walking through the area please remember to follow the countryside code: be safe-plan ahead and follow any signs - leave gates and property as you find them - protect plants and animals,and take your litter home - keep dogs under close control - consider other people . several pubs hold regular poker nights and 1pub in the village holds a poker night which is affiliated to a league . The qualifiers from there go through to regional finals to play for big prizes. the pub is the bulls head on fridays , for more info see the pubs
