Shap football club currently has only 1 team after lurching from crisis to crisis last season ,they are now playing in division 2  following a disastrous season winning only one league game

shap bowling club

Shap has an excellent bowling green maintained to a great standard by the tireless efforts of bj ,the clubhouse is newly refurbished and new members welcome,

shap memorial park & play area

shap memorial park is home to the cricket and football teams as well as the bowling club ,tennis courts and swimming pool .at the top of the park is an enclosed play area for children with swings slide roundabout etc.( see picture)

shap youth club has restarted on fridays in the memorial hall from 7-9.30pm

shap cricket club

 shap cricket team play in the premier league of  the eden valley league . they start the season in the premier league following promotion last year,fitures start in late april

shap swimming pool

Shap has the highest heated open air pool in england (849 feet above sea level).it is open through the summer months from may to september, if you are shopping at the co-op store in the village you can donate to the swimming pool simply by giving the number 8637 when asked if you have a dividend number.

penrith angling association

penrith anglers control 43.7 miles of water with fishing on the rivers eden,eamont,lowther,petteril, leith and lyvennet and many more,visitor tkts are available for selected stretches from the 15th mar-30th sep. for more info : www.penrithanglers.co.uk or tel 0176888294

The tennis courts are free to use , just bring your rackets and balls and away you go ,gets busy during wimbledon fortnight !!

Shap is the perfect place  as a base if you are wanting to explore the fells on foot ,there are a lot of fairly easy walks round the shap area if you are not too active ,or more strenuous ones if you fancy them,  wainwrights coast to coast walk passes through shap on the route from st bees in the west to robin hoods bay in the east (or vice-versa). if you are walking through the area please remember to follow the countryside code:  be safe-plan ahead and follow any signs -  leave gates and property as you find them  -  protect plants and animals,and take your litter home    -   keep dogs under close control - consider other people  . For weather info on your walk visit www.lake-district.gov.uk/weatherline   .
 If when walking in the area  you find that some paths are overgrown or inaccessible please contact  cumbria county councils rights of way officer - david.gibson@cumbriacc.gov.uk .    The lake district national park authority,national trust and natural england have a project called fixthefells which is mainaining the footpaths on the hills for more infowww.fixthefells.co.uk 
    There are many areas around shap where the native red squirrel can still be seen, for more info on red squirrels in the area www.saveoursquirrels.org.uk

poker

 several pubs hold regular poker nights and 1 pub in the village holds a  poker night which is affiliated to a  league . The qualifiers from there  go through to regional finals to play for big prizes. the pub is  the bulls head on fridays , for more info see the pubs

darts
