shap afc

shap football club currently has 2 senior teams ,the first team has just gained promotion to the first division and the reserves gained  promotion to the 2nd division .training started in june and new players are always welcome,the new season starts in late august. shap first team start life back in the first division  with a game against appleby on 3rd september , the rest of shaps fixtures are on line at  www.westmorlandfootball.co.uk  .any new sponsors for the upcoming season will be welcome ,contact hodge or trev .

shap reserves are becoming draw specialists ,they followed up their opening 1-1 draw with another 1-1 at home to kirkoswald. the reserves are still unbeaten after 4 games. the first team are still looking for their first points in the top flight

shap bowling club

shap has an excellent bowling green maintained to a great standard by the tireless efforts of bj ,the clubhouse is newly refurbished and new members welcome, secretary j smith 01931 716958

shap memorial park & play area

shap memorial park is home to the cricket and football teams as well as the bowling club ,tennis courts and swimming pool .at the top of the park is an enclosed play area for children with swings slide roundabout etc.( see picture)

shap youth club has been suspended until further notice due to lack of interest from parents.

shap has the highest heated outdoor open air pool in england ,it is open through the summer months from may to september.opening times : term time -mon-fri 16.00-18.00.sat-sun 13.00-18.00.school holidays ,mon-sun 13.00-18.00 .adult sessions mon+fri 11.30-12.30,tue+thu 18.00-19.00 sun 12.00-13.00  (please note opening times may vary due to bad weather or staffing levels ).children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult ,admission : adult £3.00 ,child £2.50 ,over 60 £2.50 ,family ticket(2 adults & up to 4 children ) £10.00 .spectator £1.00

penrith angling association

the tennis courts are free to use , just bring your rackets and balls and away you go ,gets busy during wimbledon fortnight !!


walking

shap is the perfect place  as a base if you are wanting to explore the fells on foot ,there are a lot of fairly easy walks round the shap area if you are not too active ,or more strenuous ones if you fancy them,  wainwrights coast to coast walk passes through shap on the route from st bees in the west to robin hoods bay in the east (or vice-versa). if you are walking through the area please remember to follow the countryside code:  be safe-plan ahead and follow any signs -  leave gates and property as you find them  -  protect plants and animals,and take your litter home    -   keep dogs under close control - consider other people  . for weather info on your walk visit www.lake-district.gov.uk/weatherline                                         There are many areas around shap where the native red squirrel can still be seen, for more info on red squirrels in the area www.saveoursquirrels.org.uk

shap cricket club

the cricket team is currently playing in the 1st division of the eden valley league

 the team finished mid table in the 1st division.

the eden valley is a great area to explore by bike  from easy routes to the more challenging,

poker

 2 pubs in the village hold poker nights which are affiliated to leagues . The qualifiers from each pub go through to regional finals to play for big prizes. the pubs are : the kings arms  on tuesday nights and the bulls head on fridays , for more info see the pubs
